Infinity early access
We are thrilled to announce the early access release to Infinity. This exclusive early access period will give selected users the ability to explore and utilize our platform before the official public launch. Your feedback is valuable to refine and enhance the product.
How to get started
- Request early access - Enter your email address on the home page and select the “Request early access” button. We will let people into the app in cohorts slowly over time to build relationships as researchers adopt using Infinity into their workflow.
- Accept invite - You’ll receive an email with an invite to create your account.
- Log in - Log into your account to start creating card sorts!
Known issues and limitations
- The user interface is not optimized for mobile devices
- Participants can get stuck in an “Active” state on certain mobile devices due to how session tracking begins and ends
- Open and hybrid card sorts are currently under construction
Future enhancements
We are committed to a feedback-driven design process to improve the platform. Future updates you can expect to see:
- Open/hybrid card sorts - Expanding the flexibility of the type of card sorts that are possible.
- Session replays - Introducing participant session replays to deeper understand how a participant completed their card sort
- Additional collaboration - Asynchronously communicate with team members to get work done faster and more efficiently

Send feedback
You will now see a floating button at the bottom-right of your screen once logged in where you can send any product feedback you have about Infinity.
This gives us a way to automate and centralize product feedback that comes in while giving you a simple and convenient place to report issues.
Data visualizations
We are testing a handful of data visualizations for card sort results: circle pack, sankey, and tree map. This gives researchers a way to easily change how the same groupings of data are represented to further analyze or for creating a report.

Card sort results refinements
This release we focused on polishing up some participant results features we introduced the previous release. This is in preparation for the next feature release we are working towards.
Average position
- The average position of cards in a category is now being correctly calculated and represented in the expanded table rows.
- The tenth decimal place for each number is now shown instead of a whole number
- The highest position a card can be is now 1.0 instead of 0.0
Crosstabs
- If a score on the grid cell is zero then the digit is not shown to reduce visual complexity
- Hovering over a grid cell thats zero shows the tooltip to give that additional context
Demo
The demo card sort on food preferences has been updated now including participant data to fully showcase how the data from participant sessions are collected and visualized
Footer
A footer section has been added to the website to catalog additional web pages as the site grows. Here you can now find the release notes that are updated on a biweekly basis. tracking the notes for releases holds us accountable internally and provides a level of transparency about version changes.
Pagination
Each page in the table now has a maximum of 25 rows. The next and previous pages can be navigated to from the bottom of the table. This is now available on the participants, cards, and categories tabs.
Bug fixes
- When dragging a card into an empty category it no longer flickers
- Participants can now drag-and-drop categories on the page
- Removed redundant mouse cursors on categories
- If the score on a matrix grid cell is zero then the digit is not shown to reduce visual complexity
- Hovering over a matrix grid cell thats zero shows the tooltip to give that additional layer of context

Password security
The criteria for creating a password has been strengthened as a first line of defense to protect your Infinity account. In the event a bruteforce attack occurs this will stall or prevent malicious actors from gaining access to your account.
Increasing the minimum requirement for password acts as the guardrails to keep your research safe. We take privacy seriously and will continue testing the security of our application leading up to our product launch date.
Page header
- Added a page header to every page across the app. While the appearance may alter slightly based on content the structure will remain the same to ensure a high level of consistency across the product now and for when additional pages are added in the future.
- Breadcrumbs have been reverted to a link that serves as a back button since the levels of page architecture are only one level deep
Workspace
- Added more granularity to timestamps to improve visibility
- Removed the workspace name from tiles since we there is only one workspace available
- When the menu is open the icon-only button will retain the color of the container
- Removed publish and unpublish as an action from this menu
Bug fixes
- Empty categories now have the correct minimum height
- Browsers shouldn’t confirm to close the window after participants finish a card sort
- Participant detail modals now show the participant number instead of the session ID
- You can vertically scroll on every page now
- Unpublishing the demo card sort won’t unassign the card sort as a demo now
- Fixed a bug when clicking on the overflow menu it goes through and selects objects that are underneath

Further updates to edit card sort
Autosave
Forget about remembering to save your file. A status indicator now appears while editing a card sort to describe the state of your file. If your internet connection drops your file will update once your browser reconnects, without you having to refresh the page. We got you covered.
Duplicate
- When duplicating a card sort you won’t get a confirmation modal anymore as this action can easily be reversed and no data is being lost
- Removed the “Duplicate” action as an option from the Demo card sort
Participant session
When participants sort all of the cards into categories the progress indicator bar will now have a checkmark icon. Using an icon combined with a symbol, shape, and color meets the accessibility standards for both people who are visually impaired and those who aren’t.
Usability improvements
- Scroll bars have been added on the card sort draft page for when content vertically overflows and desktops with smaller screen sizes
- You’ll now see a helpful tooltip when hovering over icon-only buttons to describe its action. There are a handful of places that now have tooltips to bring clarity to the interface
- Icons are now consistent in size and optically aligned to text they are paired next to
- Unsorted cards now only appear under the categories tab once there is at least one card not sorted into a category
Bug fixes
- Fixed a bug where you could rename a card sort to no characters
- Fixed a false positive error message when publishing a card sort to add more than 2 categories when the criteria was satisfied
- Fixed a duplicate “Cards” tab that was appearing
- Fixed browser data to populate on participant sessions
- Fixed browser from asking to translate from French to English, as we are currently only available in English
- Fixed being able to rename a card sort with no characters

Managing card sorts
We continued building out the core experience of creating and managing a card sort. You can expect releases every two weeks going forward at the start of our team sprints.
We encourage our community members to contribute their feedback both positive and negative so that we can make further improvements. We believe that software shouldn't be a barrier to performing user research. Stay tuned as we prepare for launch.
Drafts
- The number of cards in the card list are now being accurately counted
- The interactions when editing the names of cards and moving them around the page have been refined to be more accessible
- If you publish a card sort that has duplicate card names or duplicate category names, you’ll be prevented from publishing the card sort until resolved
- A minimum of two uniquely named cards and categories are now required to publish a card sort
- Deleting a category that has cards inside of it now returns the cards to the card list
- You can now change the order of categories by dragging the category
- Refreshing the page will no longer reset the order of categories
Publishing a card sort
- When you unpublish a card sort that hasn’t yet seen participants you’ll now be returned to the draft mode where you can make any further modifications to your card sort
- When you unpublish a card sort that has received participants this will change the status of your card sort to unpublished instead of redirecting you back to draft mode
- The status of card sorts are now clearly distinguished. A new card sort will be in draft mode until published. Once published, you can share a link with participants. You can close the card sort by unpublishing it at any time.
Participant session
- Participants can now drag from the boundaries of the entire card for improved accessibility
- Participants will see a progress indicator as cards are sorted into categories to let them know the card sort is complete
Usability improvements
- A menu with a list of actions to rename, unpublish, and delete the card sort is now available on the results page to reduce the amount of jumping between the results and workspace pages
- When creating an account error messages have a clear and approachable messaging

Creating card sorts
We started building out the functionality to create a card sort. By using software instead of physical cards, guardrails can be placed to direct users to making optimal decisions. So we introduced those best practices of actually conducting card sorts with the validation criteria that considers inputs acceptable or not.
Storage
Deleting a card now updates the session storage accordingly. Before deleting a card could sometimes wasn’t detected so although the card was removed from the screen it wasn’t removed from the database.
Demo
Rather than landing on a blank page, when you first create an account, a “Demo” card sort will now be in your workspace. This lets you explore the capabilities of Infinity before publishing a card sort and gathering data.
Error messages
- Naming cards or categories that are identical will now present an error message.
- Creating only one card or category also gives an error requiring at least two cards and categories to give significant enough results from a card sort.
Usability improvements
- Improved wording of buttons from “Ok” to “Publish” to clearly indicate the expected action.
- Modal windows have multiple ways of being closed now making them more accessible for keyboard users
Bug fixes
Fixed a bug where the vertical scrollbar would flash when adding a card to an unsorted category.
